While we might be reluctant to bid farewell to summer, the prospect of snuggling up in a lovely conservatory watching the nights draw in with a cup of cocoa in hand can be quite appealing. Now is the time to take advantage of the remaining good weather to get your conservatory, windows and timber frames ready for the winter months ahead.
Here’s some autumn conservatory maintenance tips to keep your extension in tip top condition:
1 – To avoid any back up of rainwater that could eventually lead to leaks, make sure that all guttering is free of debris – this can especially be a problem if you are surrounded by trees – pay particular attention to the valley gutters in the roof and install a leaf guard at the top of your downpipes to stop any blockages.
2 –Sluice away summer dust from your glazed roof with a good hose – don’t scrub self-cleansing glass as this may adversely affect the micro coating.
3- Use a soft dry brush to clean off any cobwebs on the timber frames, paying attention to all the nooks and crannies where beasties may have settled.
4 – Wipe down all the timber with a damp cloth and check for any flaking of the paintwork which will need to be recoated to maintain full protection from the elements.
5 – Check the rubber gaskets and seals for wear and tear and replace any which might compromise the weatherproofing.
6- Oil the hinges, handles and locks with a 3 in 1 oil or WD40.
